NodeJS is JavaScript, you will need to become familiar with, GIT and the Steemit API & your terminal. Here is where to start, at the beginning with the basics. Follow the steps very carefully.

once you can get the basics down it is the same for running other scripts.
All you really need right now is a NODE JS comment bot because up-voting bots are basically all done and free. For now just go to beta.steemvoter.com to set up any kind of up-vote streams you want.
I was only making a visual bot so I could show off my down voting in videos and stuff. It is overkill and not even necessary. It is more fun for me though. Think my flag war is over now anyway, so not even sure if I still will need my downvote bot. Bernie is coming around! lol
I just found this post for a node's comment bot. I will take look, once I get it working I'll send you some install instructions. There are so many bots out there, the main thing is finding the right one that still works works because sometimes these tutorials get outdated. *
