Minted in London and dated 1435 AH (2014 CE) our two dirham milled coin is made from 999/1000 parts silver and contains inscriptions in both Arabic and English. With a diameter of 27.1mm and weighing 6.0 grams or better, the coin slightly surpasses the traditional unit of weight used in early Islamic coinage (2.975 grams per dirham). Our original design was first carved into a large plaster cast and then transferred to a hardened steel die from which each coin is struck. The slightly overweight calibration compensates for erosion in daily use and helps to prolong the coin’s useful life.
