Adelaide has been called a sleepy town and in the main it is; Well, not quite sleepy, but reasonably quiet and reserved I guess one could say. That's one of the things I like about it to be honest, the peace and quiet. However on the last Thursday of each month it comes alive to the sound of steemit users meeting at the Jade in Flinders Street, the chomping of teeth on burgers, downing beverages and chatter about all things steem, and silver...And geeky I.T. stuff and generally anything we want to talk about, some of which I even understand. It's pretty-much a steemit meet-up rockstar-style and is off the chain! Alright, so maybe that's a slight exaggeration and the meet-up is somewhat more subdued however it's still a bit of fun and a great chance for local steemit users to get together and exchange ideas and information and engage in a more human way rather than just from behind a monitor.
Tonight was a bit special, firstly it was my first one since coming back from Europe, (not that special for anyone else really) and also because the most distinguished gentleman arrived carrying booty. No, not Kim Kardashian's ass, I mean SILVER booty...Pirate style! Now you're talking my language Matt! You can see by the images the special nature of this particular silver and what's more it was available to purchase!
I was fortunate enough to have the chance to grab a few of these serial numbered limited edition coins (only 1500 with certificates) from the most-excellent Matt Clarke (thank you good sir) and have added them to my pirate hoard I mentioned in a previous post recently. I really need to get me a chest... mentioned this to me tonight so if you know where to get one let me know!
Now, being a reasonably generous pirate I have decided to send one of these coins to each of my brothers who post on steemit, my twin who is 9 years younger than me and the other one who prefers a high degree of anonymity on the platform (and in real life) whom I will not mention for that reason. My gift comes with no conditions of course, I'll just send the coins and be done with it however...Any self-respecting pirate needs to revel in his hoard just a little bit and so I'll spread it all out on the floor and roll in it a little...Just a little mind you, any more would just be freaky. OK, so maybe that won't happen at all...Or...Maybe it will. You'll never know unless I video it and post about it right?
In all seriousness though, I am grateful to Matt for allowing us the chance to purchase these coins and and for pulling the Adelaide crew together under the flag...Not quite as good as my own pirate flag, but a close second. (I don't actually have a pirate flag, I made that shit up!) Thanks for hooking me up with my coins as well mate! Thank you also to
for your generosity as always. For those who don't know he runs a bingo session at each meet-up with the winner taking home an ounce of .999 of the shiny stuff! Tonight there were a few close calls of BINGO and so he gave a way three ounces! Congratulations to the winners. Bingo isn't my strong point so I was not one of them.
I don't know what ya'll out there in steemit world are doing in your neck of the woods but meet-ups like these, done right, can be very beneficial and fun also. Fortunately his excellency champions these events each month and lubricates us all with a healthy bar tab and we seem to pull in the numbers month to month. There's a bit going on down here in sleepy old Adelaide from a steemit perspective, most of which I'm not privy to, however these meet-ups are positive, steemit-community-supporting events and are a perfect opportunity to meet and greet other users and to learn about the opportunities this whole steem thing presents.
Now...Time to go roll in my silver before I send it off to my brothers.
