Recently I got in a minor car wreck where I wasn't paying attention, and hit something. Everything was fine, except my car. I drive an older car, that's payed off and I will probably drive it till it dies, but my accident probably technically totaled my car. If we were to have taken it to a body shop the damage would have been fairly close to the value of the car if not more. So instead of taking it to a body shop, I had my grandfather call a friend of his that owns a junk yard. We got the parts within a week, and did the work in around 3 hours. All together it cost us about $65 and and part of a Saturday.
Thanks to my grandfather who worked at a body shop a long time ago, it was a simple task. I told him I wanted to repay him somehow, and knowing that he wouldn't take my money for it I offered to do a few chores around the house, help him with his beaver problem on his lake, but he decided that the best thing I could help him with was selling his little coin collection. The first picture above is a picture of his collection. He told me that if I can find a buyer for some of those coins we could call it even, and he was even going to give me a small percentage for my time. A few years back he offered me a similar deal, but I moved before I could help him out. Because I was planning on it before, I already had a full list of the coins and their approximate values saved in my phone.
He has around 70-80 coins in total, ranging in value from $1 for his mercury dimes to roughly $300 for a 1921-d Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
