Getting ahead of myself?
I had some extra time at work today to think and do other, non-work related things. Inspired by the meeting that I had with a printer on Wednesday, I began dreaming up things I might be able to print in the future.
Given my recent drive to write one short poem a day for a year, I thought, wouldn’t it be nice to make a book someday, or a series of monthly zines that collects each month’s worth of poems, or even a calendar that features one poem per day.
What would that look like? How would I want to lay it out? What kind of style would I want to use to accompany the poems?
Without giving it much thought, I chose a color palette that I like and began making quick geographic design sketches.
I like the bold, modernist style of these designs, but part of me feels like I should explore a different style, something that hasn’t been done so thoroughly and so well by other artists and designers in the past. Then again, maybe it’s time to revisit this simple geometric look.
Who knows?
I still have a lot of poems to write, and I still have to figure the printing process out. Hopefully, though, from here on out, I’ll be taking quick and steady steps forward, toward my goals and dreams.
