Afternoon everyone…..
It’s not like I have any free time these days. A little over a week ago, and long time customer of mine called me with a request. I had told her that I would do it, but that I was currently juggling three different jobs at the same time. Her reply was well when you get a chance.
I’m not the type of guy that likes to make people wait. So in my driving around picking up materials for current jobs, I decided to get all the materials for this requested piece as well.
I came up with a design and made a cut list while eating dinner one night. While I was cutting up materials for a current job, I fit in the materials for this one as well.
The requested item is a mailbox with an open box planter in the back. I’ve done plenty of custom mailboxes over the years, but it’s been a while.
I decided to make the entire thing out of Azek. Azek is a PVC lumber that can be cut and shaped just like wood. The only part that isn’t Azek is the post and crossbar, those are pressure treated lumber.
I cut all the pieces and routed profiles for the custom trim that I decided on. The entire project took about four hours to make, not including the install.
Here is the final product
I decided yesterday morning that I’d go an install it on my way to my girlfriends. They weren’t home, but I installed it anyway. I even filled it with dirt and flowers, and laid a mulch bed around with matching flowers.
I got a call later around 6:30 at night thanking me for the beautiful mailbox set up. I was glad that she liked it.
That’s all for today, I’m currently grouting my tile job.
