Today let's take a look at a copper double eagle round from Golden State Mint These are available for $1.49/ea.
The reverse has a waving flag, just look at that action 🌬💨
Now, you might be thinking, WOW, a waving US flag, that's about as American as it gets...
And it would be, but then they went and put TWO eagles on the obverse!!
That reminds of something that happened a few weeks back on my drive up to Northern Washington.
it's pretty remote up where my ex lives and there's a stretch of highway just before getting to her town that I often see deer, bear, and wild turkeys on, or near, the road. It's a windy, two lane highway and I was coming around a corn when up ahead, in the other lane, I saw some magpies and another, bigger bird, feasting on some roadkill.
I slowed down but they weren't in my lane so I was still moving at about 40 mph. As I get closer the three magpies fly off but the big bird stays put until I'm only a car-length away, then it takes off and it's a golden eagle!
The thing is huge and as it flaps it's wings and starts rising it sort of fades into my lane and, I swear, the tip of its just touched the windshield. It was that close!
Update
I was up at the park walking the dogs earlier this morning and this round is still waiting for a new home.
I'm going to enjoy walking by this and checking if it's still there. In case you pass by and want to take a look I've made you a map.
