Hi everyone!
One thing I have always loved about silver coins is the magical ringing sound they make when they collide. They kind of reminds me of the Ringing Rocks near Sedona, Arizona. It's worth the trip if you haven't been there by the way. There you can tap on the rocks with a hammer and they ring like bells. Very cool place with beautiful scenery!
The coins produced today for circulation have kind of a dull sound when you jingle them. That's because they are made with nickel, copper, and zinc. You can tell right away they aren't silver just by the sound. One of my favorite ways to buy silver is junk silver coins. Essentially very worn coins with not much numismatic value due to condition. Coins are often bunched together by coin face value and then sold by silver content with a premium. A big bonus of buying junk silver coins is that you don't risk damaging a mint state coin by letting them clang together to hear that great silver ringing sound! I picked up these nice quarters in some junk silver I purchased sometime back.
Junk silver coins are easy to invest in by searching around for a good deal. Many places online offer them although I prefer to find small shops locally. Plus if you enjoy coin collecting it's a great way to pick up coins to fill in the holes in the collection even though they are far from mint state. Just remember buying silver and gold isn't for everyone and does come with some risk. So please always to your own research before spending your hard earned money. Have a great Thursday and keep on stacking!
