Good morning to you all!
I have been interesting in coin collecting ever since I was a teenager. The interest started when I was in Junior High with collecting US pennies. As a teenager in school and working a part time job at Arby's it was all I could really afford. I managed to collect most of the key dates except some of the errors and the 1909 S VDB and the 1922 plain (which is an error coin as well.) These both are rare, expensive, and very hard to find. I did eventually save up for the 1909 which felt great, the 1922 sadly I still haven't come across at a decent price.
When I started working after finishing up at the university I started getting into silver and gold bullion. I also began to focus more on dollar coins. One day I came up with the crazy idea that I wanted to own an early American dollar. After searching extensively I realized that a high grade one was way too expensive for my paycheck. However I finally came found one I could afford that was still a solid and beautiful specimen. This is my pride of my collection.
This is a 1799 Draped Bust Silver dollar minted in Philadelphia. It was designed by Robert Scot and is a remarkably beautiful coin.
Mintage: 423,515
Metal Content: 0.77344 t oz
Silver: 89.2 %
Diameter: 40 mm
Weight: 26.96 grams
I did have it graded with PCGS and came back with a G8. I thought it was a touch under graded but never bother to send it back in for a regrade attempt.
My son has become an avid collector of coins as well, probably due to too many years helping me out with my collection. So this last Christmas this was his present. I love it but I think he will probably enjoy more for the rest of his life!
I hope you all have a great Saturday and keep on stacking that silver and gold!
