Hello everyone! I invite you to the next lesson in my Simple photo school. Theme today: Color.
The harmony of color is a very important nuance of a good frame.
The main rule: no more than 3 active colors in the photo. If your photo has more than 3 strong colors, then you need to reduce the vibration and saturation in the application for processing the photo that you use.
This is an axiom of color balance. This technique has been used since ancient times by all outstanding artists.
As for me, I always reduce the saturation in my photos. So I think the perception of photography is getting softer and calmer. But I also like colorful, contrasting photos, in which the colors are well chosen. And in this post I will try to tell you about 4 simple and clear options for a harmonious color combination.
Where to start the study of color harmony. Undoubtedly, a stronghold in this case will be known to many - it is color circle of Johannes Itten.
Color theory States that there are Three primary colors: Red, Blue and Yellow. All other shades are obtained by mixing these three main colors. So, Red and yellow when mixed give orange. Mixing yellow and blue we get green. And by connecting blue and red, we'll see purple. These colors are called secondary. All other shades we can get by adding to these colors white or black. Or mixing them with each other and so on to infinity.
In order not to get lost in all this variety of colors and shades, I have chosen the most successful and easy to use color combinations. All of them have long been known and used by painters, photographers and various designers in their work.
1. The combination of 3 basic color palettes.
Combine three bright color accents on your photo: red, blue and yellow and you will get an impressive powerful contrast image that will surely attract the attention of the viewer.
2. The combination of opposite colors, that is, those that are exactly opposite on the color wheel. (For example, red and green .)
The combination of opposite colors is easily perceived by the human eye. This is a natural color balance, which is often found in nature.
3. The combination of colors are not opposite on the circle, and two adjacent from the opposite. For example, red + yellow-green+ blue-green.
Interesting color scheme. Nice and eye-catching.
4. Combination of 3 adjacent colors. (For example, red+ red-orange+ orange.)
And another pleasant combination , it's shades of the same color with different brightness and saturation. For example, a seascape consisting of shades of blue sky and water in varying degrees of saturation. Or autumn landscape in a different tone of orange. I like these Nude portraits, made in light Sepia. This color combination always looks very stylish and gentle.
And another important nuance of color harmony. I often use this principle when color correction of my photos. Light areas of the photo should have a warm tone and shade. Shadows in photos on the contrary, it is better to move in the direction of cold tones. It's coming from our brain device. Light is always associated with the sun, with warmth and joy. And the shadows are a little dangerous and cold. If this balance is disturbed in the image, it seems to the viewer something unnatural and strange. Pay attention to this point when you edit your photo.
Thanks for reading. I hope you liked my advice about color combination in the photos. See you soon!
