SINGAPORE - In the next few months Singapore will announce plans to replace its fleet of aging F-16 fighter jets. Some of the most sophisticated fighter jets, including the F-35, Sukhoi, Typhoon to China's stealth fighter jets are ogled as a surrogate option.
Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen said a number of fighter jet manufacturers would be given the opportunity to offer themselves a deal that would reach billions of dollars.
Singapore has 60 units of F-16 fighter jets currently approaching old age for military service. Eng Eng Hen told reporters that the decision to replace these aging fighter jets should be decided soon as pilot training and building facilities for the new jet fighter model could take up to 10 years.
