seventeen years of skateboard photography
André - Frontside Nosegring (first picture published in a big skateboard mag)
My interest in photography was born and kindled by skateboard magazines. Growing up in the 90's, magazines were the main source of information. I loved the pictures and covered the walls of my bedroom with ripped pages. But the idea of becoming a photographer myself never crossed my mind. When, in 2003, my brother bought a very simple automatic digital camera, I would eventually borrow it and take it to the street of Rio de Janeiro and photograph my friends skateboarding, just for fun.

Little by little the passion for the act of photographing things took over in an overwhelming way, and I drop out of college and decided that I wanted to be a photographer. It took me around three years until I was comfortable to call myself a "photographer". For me, the ones who deserved to be called photographers were those whose pictures I would see in magazines. I would spend every waking hour studying and taking pictures, not only of skateboard, but of everything. I stil remember the thrill of having my first picture published in a major magazine. In the following years I would collaborate or be a staff member of all the big Brazilian skateboard magazines. Here I share a small sample of this seventeen year journey. Hope you all enjoy it.
