As I look on CoinMarketCap this fine morning, I see there are currently over 1300 coins listed. 1319 to be exact at the time of this writing. Looking back, I remember when this number was a good bit lower. It seems like everyday there are more coins being listed.
My guess, which will most likely be completely wrong, is that many of these will be worthless after a few years as developer teams break apart or were just looking for a quick buck.
I first heard about SmartCash from when he started posting about the coin 4 months back. They had a bunch of SmartCash giveaways for promoting their coin on Twitter so I began to do some more research and see if this was legit or just another Sh*tcoin. But with
behind it and after following him since I joined Steemit I had a feeling it would be a worthwhile cause.
First Stop - The Website
When looking at a new cryptocurrency I first check out their website and make sure they are who they say they are. Many of the coins have no website at all or have a site full of spelling errors, but the SmartCash website was clean and well designed. You can view their site here, https://smartcash.cc/.
Upon looking at their website you can see that SmartCash has some very unique features to it.
- SmartHive - this allows the community to have a say in the usage and ultimate fate of SmartCash.
- SmartRewards - this price stabilizing mechanism helps to encourage long term holding of the coin by rewarding wallets that have over 1,000 SmartCash in them once a month as long as there are no transactions with this address.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Privacy - SmartCash uses the ZeroCoin protocol which has arguably the strongest privacy features. For many, this is a critical component of SmartCash.
Speed - The speed of transactions of SmartCash is incredible. Within seconds after a transfer, the coins are available to the receiver.
Global Effects
SmartCash is continuing to bring awareness globally of the coin and its great features, but in countries like Venezuela and India they have visions of disrupting the current economic issues through the use of SmartCash.
Wallets
Having the capability of storing your coins in a Wallet is crucial for most crypto lovers and SmartCash has you covered here. You can download their Desktop Wallet right from their site for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. As of recently, this was really the only option.
It seems like every week SmartCash has a new enhancement making it easier to transact. After the Desktop Wallet, came the Paper Wallet and the Brain Wallet.
The Brain Wallet is simply a passphrase that you have memorized by creating the private key by hashing and which holds the public key. has a great write up about the Benefits of Using a Brain Wallet with SmartCash.
The Paper Wallet is similar to the brain wallet except an address is generated with the private key.
In just the past few days, SmartCash has launched their Web Wallet. You can now transfer SmartCash to anyone by sending to their username. This is a great new feature where you don't have to worry about making sure the long string of characters in the key is correct. @Smartcash has a post that goes into more detail about the Web Wallet available here.
Price
As of this morning, the price of SmartCash is currently sitting around $.055 or 0.00000689 BTC. Since the inception of the coin, the price has been as low as less than $.005 to as high as over $.18. Over the last few weeks, the price has been pretty stable. With a total Market Cap of only $20 million, SmartCash is still a small coin, but with the dedicated core team and strong support from the community on Steemit and Slack, I expect to SmartCash to flourish in the years to come.
Exchanges
Currently, you can pick up SmartCash on Cryptopia, CoinExchange, and HitBTC exchanges and I imagine one day soon it will be listed on all of the major exchanges. Maybe, there will even be a Smart/Steem and Smart/SBD pair in the future.
There are quite a few Steemians that are a part of or fans of SmartCash, including ,
