The "Sinking Bell Tower" of Laoag City is one of its famous landmarks.
It is believed that the bell tower is sinking an inch a year.
They say that when it was newly built, a horse with a man standing on its back can enter its gate, but now, a person with a normal height cannot enter it without bending.
The massive tower is made of solid bricks and was erected on sandy land. This perhaps the reason why it is sinking; its heavy and the land is soft.
The bell tower was built by the Augustinian on 1612.
