Hello there fellow beach lovers!
Pardon me, if I have used such title.
Lifeguard, a noun, combined by two words “life” and “guard”, by these two words, it simply means “guard life”.
Lifeguard is a person that guards the lives of each individual in a pool, water park, and beach. Their role is important as they carefully watch over their area of responsibilty to ensure the safety of everyone. We usually see them sitting or standing by their post, basked in the sun for the number of hours of their duty.
For some one like me, who has so much love for beach and pool but ironically, is not a good swimmer, I always feel comfortable swimming knowing that they are around. At least, I know for a fact that if ever something happens to me when I am in the water, there will be an expert swimmer to rescue me. Honestly, every time we go to swimming pools, beaches and water parks, the first thing I look for is a good looking lifeguard with a perfect beach body. Actually, the television influenced my mind when I was younger that when you come across the word lifeguard, they always have a perfect body and good looks. Who among you here have seen the baywatch tv series? It is undeniable, the casts of this show are good-looking and wears short swim trunks and revealing bathing suits. Well, it is not usually the case in real life, good looks and perfectly shaped body is not so important for me, what far more significant is you possess the skills required in saving lives. They should be an expert swimmer, trained to do CPR and use first aid kit, observational skills, and as they would be the immediate contact person in case of emergency, they must be able to act calmly and a quick thinker.
Though we have lifeguards around, they are definitely not our baby-sitter, if we have children, we as parent, should carefully watch over our kids because we are responsible for them. Also to avoid any incident that could harm them. Lifeguards have a tough job as their main priority is everyone’s safety. Imagine, scanning their area repeatedly, left and right, back and forth. It is quite a tedious job. I admire people who takes their job seriously even how boring it could be all day long each day.
Have you tried greeting them with just a warm smile? A simple smile can brighten up someone’s day. It’s a rippled effect! I hope you do the next time you visit another beach or pool. But don’t to try to chat with them for a long period while they are on duty as you will distract them and they will not be able to perform their sole responsibility. They should focus and be alert at all times.
See you on the next wave!

A lifeguard is like a storm shelter, you may never need it, but if you do, it can be a lifesaver. ~unknown
