Lightning and Thunderstorm

Lightning is a sudden electrostatic discharge that occurs typically during a thunderstorm. The charge regions in the atmosphere temporarily equalize themselves through this discharge referred to as a flash. Thunder is the sound caused by lightning. Thunderstorms occur in a type of cloud known as a cumulonimbus. Thunderstorms result from the rapid upward movement of warm, moist air, sometimes along a front.
