The Matamir prison, which is located underground in Al-Matamir district, is one of the oldest historical sites in the city of Tetouan. The ecclesiastical church was a place of worship for Christian prisoners, the prisoners of the founder of the city of Tetouan Sidi al-Maqri during its jihadist operations during the sixteenth century.
The Old City of Matthamar has a long history. The church is part of the prison that was home to Christian Christians who worked during the day in building the walls of Tetouan city under the supervision of the city of Tetouan Sayyid al-Maqtari.
The ecclesiastical church is unique in that there is a four-arched cross, as well as a ceiling-shaped ceiling lamp. The gaps in the lighthouse are covered with lime and wages. The ecclesial church also contains a table that was used as a temple table.
The Matamir prison, which houses the ecclesiastical church, contains cavities divided by wage walls, stone and a triangular rock, with semi-circular lobes. The historical place of the church and its religious dimension made it one of the tourist places frequented by Arab and foreign tourists to visit and explore.
