That is Garter Snake NOT Garden Snake. Yes you might find these snakes in your garden and I highly recommend letting them go in your garden but they are NOT called Garden Snakes HA HA.
My my my and what a beautiful Garter Snake we have too!
Amazingly enough I found this snake almost in the exact same place along the bike path where I found that other Garter Snake a few weeks ago. Sure enough this snake was out sunning too HA HA. It was no problem at all catching her either.
Now I say "her" because this snake was pretty fat for a full sized Garter Snake. In the snake world the bigger snakes are usually the female. She must have been about two to two and a half feet long but pretty fat for her length. Not too much longer than that little Garter Snake I caught a few weeks ago. I'm thinking she is fat because she is about to give birth. Garter Snakes actually give live birth. Their eggs hatch inside of them and are born alive. So is this a big mamma Garter Snake like the one I caught two years ago? Honestly I don't know.
It was fun walking up and down the bike path today holding her. Several people shrieked of course riding or jogging by me HA HA. A few cool people stopped to check the snake out and wanted to know more. In fact, shortly after catching the snake one guy stopped to check her out and even said he thought it might be a female snake seeing how fat it was.
I didn't get any good pictures of the snake trying to bite me as you can see. I did try though. She wouldn't keep her mouth open long enough to get any pics. Right after catching her she calmed right down. This snake was rather friendly for the most part. She kept giving me some nice tongue action though HA HA. Usually Garter Snakes can be quite aggressive. Just check out the angry mamma Garter Snake I caught two years ago...
