Aurora House Snake (Lamprophis aurora)
One of South Africa's most beautiful and most gentle of snakes. Wild ones show next to no aggression and can simply be picked up. They have no venom.
They are fairly common in Johannesburg but unfortunately many of them are killed out of fear.
They do not grow very big - up to 90cm long. The average size is 30-40 cm long.
They are endemic to South Africa and Lesotho.
