The Cape Coral Snake (Aspidelaps lubricus lubricus)
One of the most beautiful South African Snakes. It is part of the Cobra and Mamba family (Elapidae). Although dangerous, it is not considered deadly. It is small, reaching a maximum length of 75cm. It is found In the Eastern and Western Cape but is most common in the Northern Cape where it can often be found on roads at night,
It stands up and spreads a narrow hood.
