The Boomslang (African Tree Snake) (Dispholidus typus) is a well known Back-Fanged dangerous snake of South Africa.
There are often stories told that because it is Back-Fanged it is difficult to inflect a proper bite. Also stories that it can only inflect a successful bite on an ear or on a hand between fingers. These are just stories and are not true.
This picture clearly shows that the fangs are quite large and are in fact in the middle of the mouth and not at the back of the mouth. The term "Back-Fanged" refers to the fangs being backwards of "front-fangs" not being in the back of the mouth.
A Boomslang can inflect a successful bite anywhere on the body!
