Reticulated Python ( Python reticulatus ) From South East Asia Photo taken at SnakeCity in Johannesburg South Africa
To the best of my knowledge, this is the only Snake in the world that actually hunts man. I had a reference that each year in India it is estimated that on average 30 people are killed and eaten by this snake.
It holds the record of being the longest Snake in the world with a record size of 10,5 m long.
They are intelligent, aggressive and extremely powerful.
When I clean their cage I slap them on the back to let them know I am there and to get them to move back - the only snake that I do this with.
Other large pythons that have killed man also include the Burmese Python ( Python bivittatus) and the African Rock Python ( Python sebae )
The most dangerous time with these snakes in captivity is feeding time. If they smell food and bite the person feeding them by accident - they are powerful enough to kill an adult human.
We only feed with dead prey and never hold the prey with our hands - we use an extended Grab-Stick to hold the prey and feed the snake.
