One debate that seems not be ending for content creators on steemit and other platforms is Content quality versus quantity. Every content creator must have at one time or the other have to decide which side to go with. We are all familiar with the cliche..."content is king".
If Content is King, the audience are the kingmakers.
The goal of creating contents is to engage and add value to the audience. I believe both the content and your audience must take the center stage when engaging in any debate of content quality versus quantity, of course after those comes how rewarding your postings are.
As regard to Steemit, posting multiple times in a day or few times times in a week has its own advantages for the content creator but the again, it is about the audience, adding value.
The mistake a lot of content producers here make is to set goals with maximizing rewards in short time at the back of their minds. Of the truth a lot of us came here for the money but most of the goals will never be accomplished if you are not engaging and adding value to your followers and readers.
According to yesterday statistics posted by today here, steemit currently have more 400,000 active users, 181,201 Posts (including comments) was published, daily active users 62,716 and new accounts created yesterday was 3,580. You can now imagine how hard it gets to get noticed, it will likely get harder with Steem/SBD doing well in the coming days or weeks and more people joining the platform.
The best way to stay ahead of the crowd and standout is to genuinely care about your audience. To never click on the post button until your are sure you have done justice to the topic and given your audience the best of your information, creativity and experience.
Content Quantity - The more the merrier?
The more the merrier may be true in some situations but no entirely in Steemit situation. Posting multiple times will get your article and your username in the eyes of more steemians but it does not guarantee more rewards, at least not on the log run.
A Steemian has 10 times upvotes at 100% in a day bearing it in mind it will take 24 hours after for his voting power to regenerate to 100%. We are all conscious when giving out Upvotes. That implies you are likely not to get a 100% or less percentage of vote twice from an account, even if your posts deserve it except you are on his auto-vote. The statistics above already stated there are lot of posts to be read and rewarded by steemains in a day which decrease the likelihood of your daily multiple posts all getting good number of upvotes.
Content Quality?
I respect the opinions of people choosing content quantity over quality. They sure have their reasons to go for posting at high frequency. There is a good chance of posting a quality content with a lot of sweat and time going into it and ended getting few cents as rewards for your effort...it happens even to the best of us. So why not just put some words together, post that and move on to the next one.
Quality is subjective. Quality content is not necessarily a long one. Long post is only an indication the creator put in some efforts. Unfortunately a good number of long 'quality' is full of rephrasing a point many times or paraphrasing other people's content. The attention span of an average reader is small and will most likely skim through post to get to the key pointer.
So we will be clear, what are quality contents?
I have said this before and will say it again for emphasize because it is most important message in this post. The essence of producing any content is to provide value to the readers.
- Quality content is writing, taking photograph, making videos not for your own sake but imparting your audience.
- Quality content is thinking and planning long term with your contents. You don't want to be known as a spammer or have reputation for posting BS. That hurt your 'conversion' and rewards. People we rarely return to your blog once they realize you just post for the sake of it.
- Quality contents will get you engagements. we all love to see influx of activities on our blogs. it is an indication we are doing with our contents. A blog with little reward but good number of comment suggests the poster will soon be rewarded for his effort if he didn't relent.
My Take and Conclusion
You know already i am leaning towards content quality over quantity.
Any fashion enthusiast knows well crafted items always command more respect and have more value than mass produce items. So take your time to craft your contents to influence, educate, entertain and engage your audience.
If this is a match, quality will take it all day every day. But it is not...don't be deceived by the 'versus' in the post. One does not have to go out completely for the other
Quality should come first, then comes consistency. Producing a great content once in a while and become invisible for a long time means you will fall out of the radar...
what is rarely seen is quickly forgotten.
The bottom line is to put effort into producing high quality content but be consistently and have momentum.
Quality matters a great deal but so also is consistency. Create the right balance.
