Why Are We Catering To The Offended?
Facts Don't Care About What You Are Feeling
Ever play Monopoly and pull the card that states, "Go Directly To Jail. Do Not Pass Go. Do Not Collect $200?" It feels like we are actually living a very similar type of game where you can simply scream, "Racist!" or "Homophobe!" or state, "I am offended," and all of a sudden whomever you are targeting has to, figuratively of course, go to jail.
The question I have is, "Why are we complying?" You see, I really could not care less (is it possible to care less than less?) that some snowflake in front of me is offended. Rather than go for the easy attempt to shut me down, which requires absolutely no work, why not rationally tell me where I am wrong?
Saturday Night Live should do a skit where two scientists are debating various theories on physics, or something, and one is clearly getting the better of the other. Then, the guy (or gal) losing just points to the other and screams, "Racist!" Then the other people in the room look befuddled and ask the loser what he is talking about. The loser just repeats. "But you're both talking physics. There is nothing about race in this debate. That's a non sequitur!" the group states. The loser just does it again. "But you're both white!" they say indignantly.
Don't you feel that way sometimes? Rather than engage in a civil discourse full of reasoning and facts, your opponent just calls you names as if on the play ground, and then revel in their victory. Well, I say we stop playing by their rules and reply, "Sorry but that b.s. doesn't fly any longer. Either make a valid point or concede."
