Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the self-described democratic-socialists who thinks that the unemployment rate is low because people "have two jobs" now is calling to abolish the Electoral College. This seems to me to be the antithesis of Socialism. Don't get me wrong. I'm a reasonable person, educated in Economics and have no use for socialism but the point still stands that she is calling for the opposite of socialism.
Why do I say that? The answer is easy: To abolish the Electoral College is literally to take choice from those people who, in many cases are limited in choice to begin with. What she is really saying is: Since I live in a thought bubble (aka a big city) we all need to make sure that everyone is forced to live the way we would like to live.
Ok, as I write this I am realizing that this call by Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is perfectly socialist. As I write I just changed my view. She is actually showing her true colors as a socialist bully taking all choices away from anyone not in her circle of "big city thinking". Have you ever seen The Hunger Games?
Ocasio-Cortez
Ocasio-Cortez is a complete and total dunce. Aside from winning the primary in New York against a swamp-dwelling democrat her entire political campaign has been lined with blunders. Most of these blunders have just been her showing off her lack of understanding or even basic knowledge of, well, anything. First, on cable TV she says that the unemployment rate is low because people have two jobs. As anyone with even a 101 level understanding of economics knows the unemployment rate is not counted based on the jobs but on the people employed. So, that's dumb.
Then, Ocasio-Cortez goes on to explain her stance on "Israel's occupation of Palestine", a hot-button...wait, what?! There is no Palestine, you complete moron! Then, if just the statement wasn't enough, when she's corrected she says, "I'm no expert in geo-politics". So, you want to represent your district and draft the rules by which the U.S. plays in the world and you don't even know about one of the biggest conflicts in the middle east over the last century? Wow! Just Wow!
About a month and a half ago, Ben Shapiro made a tweet asking Ocasio-Cortez to debate him and saying that he would donate $10k to her campaign if she did. What she did was start frantically grasping at democrat talking points and the only one she could come up with was the gender card. Instead of saying "no" or just simply ignoring the tweet, she decided to make a fool of herself and publicly label such a request as "cat calling". So, in her idea of cat calling is defending her views against someone who has different views? Give me a break.
The sad thing is that people voted for her in the primary. Even sadder is that fact that in her district, she would have likely gotten actually elected in November had her handlers lock her in her room until the day after the election.
Socialism, Cuz...Ya Know it's Hip!
Her platform that she shares with Bernie Sanders (crazy Bernie) is labeled "democratic-socialism". In other words: Theft because people voted to steal other people's things. Basically, what they are calling for is not only the changing of our Republic to a Democracy but then, using the tyranny of the majority to steel my shit and give it to someone else.
Think for a second about the glorious life we could all have if we just used the Soviet model of governance or the Venezuelan model. How great our lives could be. We could go ahead and get rid of freedom of speech or thought and imprison and kill those who detract an any way from the edicts of the state. Even is we think someone may be thinking about detracting we could jail them too. Where do I find the enrollment form?
We can also look forward to working really hard and innovating without any incentive to do so. Well, I guess the only incentive to work hard would be because we have to and will face imprisonment if we don't work our post specified by the state.
Considering it is a completely flawed ideology that has led to genocide level death and complete devastation each time it's been tried, it is beyond me how it even has a platform in the United States. Considering all we have to do is read a history book, it should be well known that Socialism isn't even painted in a good light throughout history. Consider the National Socialist Party (aka Nazi party). In the words of the degenerate Don Lemon, "It's right there in the name", socialist. These same people who go around calling everyone they don't agree with Nazi's are actually calling for the United States to embrace the ideology of the Nazi's. I think this probably illustrates the lack of understanding of socialism by the socialists. Sheesh, this is a mental exercise!
Back to the Electoral College
The tyranny of the majority is the primary reason why our founders developed the idea of the Electoral college. Without it, all a politician needs to do is go to Los Angeles, Chicago and New York to win an election. Those folks who live in rural areas would have no say. The Electoral College, in a way allows the vote to be spread out by geography rather than allowing it to go just the biggest concentration of people.
Ocasio-Cortez says she wants to abolish the Electoral College because "it's a relic of slavery". This is a perfect talking point for her followers because it has the word "slavery" and she likens it to racism. Anyone ever wonder why these people never explain how or why they think it's a relic a relic of racism? I realize that for a socialist that would be a lot of thought all at once but these are the questions worth asking if you want to save your dignity. The reason they never explain how or why is because the statement originally was utterly absurd. No matter how hard you try you will never be able to come up with a coherent explanation as to why giving every American and every geographic area a say in the vote. It's impossible.
What Cortez is doing is just what Kanye West explained at the White House yesterday. They are using the word racism to light a fire in the belly of those that racism has had an impact on, whether in their lineage or directly. They know that they don't have to explain themselves. They just need to say it over and over and it plants the seed of control that can be passed on from generation to generation.
If I were to have to guess, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez only knows the term Electoral College but doesn't have a clue what it's about. She probably heard the term and went on-line to see what the application process is like and what their strongest course of study was. What Ocasio-Cortez and anyone else who wants to abolish the Electoral College is really saying is, "We lost so we don't like the rules anymore". It's like when your younger brother flips the checker board over when it's clear they were going to lose.
