Day 8: A Song About Drugs or Alcohol
Here we are at day 8 of the month long song challenge (that will be taking me at least 2 months.... ๐). Todayโs song is meant to be about drugs or alcohol. This is kind of funny to me because I actually have a whole WEED playlist.
BUT I DONโT EVEN DO WEED! ๐
It all started back in the 80โs. US President Ronald Regan started his War on Drugs. His wife Nancy complimented this war with her own initiative - Dare to Say No to Drugs. This campaign was launched in schools across the United States to keep kids drug free. D.A.R.E. stood for drug abuse resistance education and as a kiddo I very much took this to heart. I got the highest score in my class on the drug unit and to this day have only had two puffs on a joint at some bar in Amsterdam in 1998.
This is the entirety of my experimentation with any drugs.
Yet somehow I have a weed playlist... ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Maybe itโs because I have spent a lot of time in Southern California, but the beach music scene is very pot friendly. People smoke it (๐คข the smell). Bands sing about it, and their tunes are ever so catchy. With that here is one of my most favorite songs about drugs:
Rest of My Life
The Kottonmouth Kings are a hip hop group from Placentia, California and the weediest of weed bands. At least 90% of their songs are about doing pot. At concerts fake marijuana plants lined the stage and green lights would shine down on the band. They even had a GIANT blunt that took center stage at their shows. I donโt know what business I have liking this band. ๐
For good measure letโs throw in a song about alcohol.

Reel Big Fish, from Orange County, California, put on a hugely fun live show. I last saw them perform in April at Back to the Beach in Huntington Beach, California. I will see them again at Scallywag! in September. The band is all ska punk with an amazing horn section. Beer is my favorite of their songs.
