I'm doing the Openmic Songwriter's Challenge, and I am very happy to be "forced" to write songs.
Without a deadline, I write about a song a year.
The theme of the week was lost and found, and my original idea was to write a song about someone who finds a pocketwatch in a lost and found.
The watch would have actually been a necromancer's horcrux.(bwahahahahaa)
I wasn't sure if I was going for a sinister song, or a warm and fuzzy song when the person was reunited with a bit of their own soul.(they were the necromancer in a previous life)
This is my original brainstorm.
and some more that I did at work
Most of my actual writing is done while I pace and smoke in my backyard at night. Wind and moon do wonders for my creative spirit.
As I tried to find a melody for this song, a completely different song came flying out...
Suddenly there was no necromancer, and it was set in the south.
The chorus came out first followed immediately by the first verse.
Here is the paper that I read from while performing it.
It's crumpled after I threw it across the room in a fit of frustration.
It eventually turned into this song.
I am so grateful to Steemit and the openmic community for providing the conditions to keep me writing:D
Also this week, I got an Amazon Dot. After a visiting and
on Thanksgiving, I was inspired to be as cool as them.
Now I can tell Alexa, who I re-named 'Computer', to play songs for me all day!
