Today I woke up (naturally) at 0530, showered, had breakfast and was ready to go by 0700. We had about an hour drive into Hoedspruit. Our first stop was the shop ‘Khaki Fever’ where we tried on different sizes of uniform, we each placed an order for two tops and two bottoms. After that we were free for a few hours. We went to ‘Spur’ a restaurant and had something to eat, some of us had breakfast and some had lunch, I had breaded chicken with a cheese sauce and sweet potato fries with mango juice.
After this, we did some shopping, we went to the supermarket, the book shop, the outdoors shop and the pharmacy. Then we went to ‘The Fig And Bean’ for a drink – the chocolate milkshake was divine. We all went back to ‘Khaki Fever’ and collected our clothes and then drove back to camp.
We had a bit of free time so I did some more of my workbook.
Next we were driven around our little park in the 4 x 4 and the trainers demonstrated how to use the radios, the protocols for getting in and out of a sighting and the ‘rules’ of the game drives. We saw a baby leopard and followed the sighting procedures accordingly, what a shame it was just a toy put in a tree!!
We drove back to camp, had time for a bit of study and then it was time for dinner – chicken pie, salad and butternut squash.
After dinner, it was time for showers, more study, reading and then bed.
