I've been thinking about space . . . Starship . . . landing legs.
Is SpaceX planning to land Starship on Mars in 2027 without landing legs - yep that's right, without them?
Here me out. Time is short, you are still not sure if you can get landing legs to work with the heat shield, you prefer the ship reaches the ground rather than burns up beforehand, you think there's at least a 50% change you are going to crater anyway, you haven't had time to test legs properly.
Conclusion - why not try landing without them? Simple! Think of it as a test landing a Starship over water on Earth. They don't expect to get it back but you want to know if the landing process is good.
What is the likelihood?
