Recently there have been many posts about Spammy Accounts
Personally, I have been trying to do some clean up as I move around the site. If I notice a spammy/scammy post, I will flag it. Tonight, I am finding minnowbooster and other accounts have voted on the posts, making them expensive to flag. I don't like to play police, but the one photo that only takes a few seconds to google search posts are easy targets.
I blame the careless voters. (This is not about bots, bad votes can be done manually)
New users join SteemIt and are taught what expectations the community has regarding earnings. We all have a different tolerance for Spam and comments as we have been discussing for weeks and months.... So, I am not going to tell you what you should tolerate, but consider it the voters responsibility if there are rewards from the same voting programs on post after post from some users that only have one photo (easily searched) and not theirs and various other spammy, scammy accounts.
I am not going to spend hours looking for scammers, it isn't my thing, but if they are obvious, I am also going to consider holding the voters accountable. I don't have a problem with vote buying, I have an issue with bad content getting voted up often, so maybe the pay for voting systems should put some money into helping pay for the clean up that such programs are creating, and voluntarily those programs supporting mainly minnows should do some spot checking to ensure they are not voting up too many problem accounts.
With your vote you are paying people for their content. There is no reason people can't stay on SteemIt and post things that are interesting to them, the problems tend to develop when they start expecting to earn while doing that. Helping minnows who produce great content to get noticed is a good thing (IMO). Paying people to post other people's pictures without meaningful discussion, descriptions, etc. my opinion is not a good thing.
This is meant to be a conversation starter, I am not advocating fees for paid upvoters, just thinking maybe they would like to contribute to the clean up case or they can take a few flags themselves to adjust their REP accordingly.
What are your thoughts. I want my actions to support the growth of traffic and keep the site usable, it is a tough balance and I find my opinions change a bit with my mood. Conversations about such things usually help me to solidify how I feel about them.
Don't forget my plea to upvote meaningful comments as I think we would have less spam if we did a better job of rewarding the conversations that happen on SteemIt. Vote for POR - Proof of Reading.
