By March 28, 1939, all of the Republican armies had begun to disband and surrender, and Nationalist forces entered Madrid on that day. The Spanish Civil War is over. Many Republicans continued to fight against fascism. During World War II they fought in the ranks of the resistance in France. Some Spanish pilots left for the USSR and fought against the Nazis on the Eastern Front.
