A craving for chocolate, pizza and other high-calorie foods can be reduced, using a special additive - a substance called inulin-propionate. This discovery was made by researchers from Imperial College London and University of Glasgow (UK). Results published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
As the name implies, the new additive is contained in many plant fibers inulin and from propionic acid. The latter plays an important role in human physiology, because with its help, the microflora transmits brain signals, which provide a feeling of satiety.
As was previously known, inulin reduces appetite, slowing digestion and weight gain, and the propionate also reduced food cravings.

The researchers set out to determine whether the combination of inulin and propionate is more effective for getting rid of cravings for harmful food. The study involved 20 men with normal weight. Some of the men had consumed a milkshake containing inulin-propionate, while the other drank a milkshake containing only inulin.
In the end, it was discovered that the inulin-propionate much more effectively reduces appetite and people's craving for high-calorie foods and promotes weight loss.
