Both the man and his wife were naked, yet felt no shame. Genesis 2:25
Think about that for a minute… Adam and Eve originally had no shame with how God created them, their bodies, their relationship, nothing! When God created us in His image and likeness, this was the life He envisioned for us and it was good. A life of purity with Him and each other. A life without any shame! But what changed all of that? The temptation that there was a better way to live outside of how He told them. We know the story: they eat from the tree they were told not to; they realized they were naked and felt ashamed; they hid from God's presence when they heard Him coming; they played the blame game when confronted.
Are we any different? When we sin and make choices outside of God's will for our lives, we too start to feel insecure about our bodies, relationships, and status in life. We can feel ashamed and embarrassed. We can also can start to blame others for our circumstances and hide from God.
So what does God do about all this?
So the Lord God called out to the man and said to him, “Where are you? ” Genesis 3:9, then:
The Lord God made clothing out of skins for Adam and his wife, and He clothed them. Genesis 3:21
Wow! God is looking for them. He reaches out and continues the pursuit of a relationship. Even after they disobeyed, after they hid, and even after taking zero responsibility for their actions. He makes a sacrifice to clothe them and takes away their shame! So if you are feeling shameful, sinful, and like you are hiding from God, remember this. Our loving Father is pursuing you! He sacrificed His only son to cover your shame; to cover your sins; to restore the relationship with you He once had. God does not desire for you to be ashamed but to be restored into the image in which He first created you. His image! But God can only take away your shame if you allow Him to. Allow God to clothe you with the purity and radiance of Jesus Christ! Accept God's grace! Restore the relationship! Live a life of no more shame!
