I understand the trepidation many will have while reading this, but truth is truth, and whether we like it or not, it will eventually come to light. I hope you can appreciate that I shed this light with love.
There will be proof of popular belief based on art and fear as well as actual fact based on etymology. Feel free to research. I am 100% confident in the veracity of the contents here.
The name "Lucifer" makes its appearance in the fourteenth chapter of the Old Testament book of Isaiah, at the twelfth verse, and nowhere else:
"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!"
"O Lucifer" was used to express "O shining one", and not the name of a biblical character, and certainly not Satan. Its own simple context clearly shows this.
An evil character named Lucifer did not exist in Christianity until one became popularized by the poet John Milton in his masterpiece "Paradise Lost" in 1667. This was art entertainment; not gospel.
So how did the word lucifer get into the bible, even for that one simple passage?
This word comes from Jerome's Latin Vulgate translation. He translated the Hebrew word "הֵילֵל" (shining one), pronounced "helel", which was lower case initialed, signifying that it was not a name of a character, pronounced "helel", to "lucifer".
Was Jerome in error? Not at all, because in Latin during those days, "lucifer" actually meant Venus as a morning star. Isaiah was using this metaphor for a bright light. Therefore, Lucifer wasn't equated with Satan until centuries later. Jerome wasn't in error. Later Christians were in equating "Lucifer" with "Satan" merely because of artists, and not the actual gospel.
So "Lucifer" is nothing more than an ancient Latin name for a morning star, a bringer of light, which can be confusing for Christians who also identify Christ himself as the morning star. Lets not forget thatJesus refers to himself as the morning star in Revelation 22:16: "I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star."
In that single verse by Isaiah in the Old Testament using the word lucifer, it is nothing but a taunt song. This passage refers first to the fall of the earthly king of Babylon; not Satan, the devil, or any angel or entity that fell from Heaven.
So there. We now know that in the religious teachings, Lucifer is not an evil character.
And what about this!
What if I told you that a well respected Christian Bishop was named Lucifer, and was elevated to a saint in the church?
If Lucifer was truly believed to be Satan, Im sure he wouldnt have been made a saint, or even allowed his high position in the church. Christianity, unfortunately took a turn for the worse in the 4th century, and Bishop St. Lucifer of Cagliaria was in the front lines of the fight against the invading Roman horde, but they lost, and thus was birthed the Roman Catholic Church, which took a beloved faith and turned it into an organized forced state religion that became very political.
So why do I share this? WHat good does this knowledge bring anyone?
"The fact that millions of people share the same vices does not make these vices virtues, the fact that they share so many errors does not make the errors to be truths, and the fact that millions of people share the same form of mental pathology does not make these people sane." Erich Fromm- We have many great esoteric writers who have stayed true to the etymology and respect the phonetic origins of words. They have been great studies of history, philosophy and spirituality, and often use scary words like "lucifer", which agitate the ignorant who are easily triggered at words and concepts they dont understand, rather than paying attention to the context to find true meaning and intention of the author.
When these writers like Pike, Blavatsky and Levi, refer to Lucifer, it is not about some evil being. But again, people are triggered by words they have heard over and over by Hollywood films and decades of bad preaching. They have no understanding or respect for history and real liberating spirituality because they are stuck in a prison of words.
- Christianity is under attack today, and we risk losing much ancient spiritual knowledge simply because modern Christians do not know how to interpret their Bibles. Modern Christians look crazy with their overzealous fear fueled ill-knowledge, and give Atheists easy material to sell the world as a case against religion.
The Bible is not something you can just read and expect to understand. One must read it in respect to previous versions. It takes work and dedication. It is meant for the few willing to go out of their way to understand. That is how the scriptures become illuminated, and people can truly embody the philosophies and words of the great prophets of ALL RELIGIONS.
With love,
Doc
PS
I sually dont like to refer to Wikipedia for knowledge, but they did a pretty solid job on the subject of Lucifer.
