I once posted bell sound at the monastery of Montserrat in Spain. Montserrat got its name because of its shape of saw-thooth. Seeing the momentum of the rocky mountain, Koreans usually call it the peak of knights but the Spaniards compared it to a saw blade. Such rocky mountains had been personified in the East but in the west, they had been compared to matters. Both share similar image which is metaphor of tough but unbreakable competence. Montserrat is told that it was also associated with the Knights Templars. The way of naming the mountain per each culture
This is a work drawn by one of my friend(). It is interesting to read the person's mind from the image of mountain inside the water of bowl. If I was a Westerner, this bowl might remind me of the Holy Grail, but as a Korean, I don't need to think about the Holy Grail, would rather remind me the typical image of a bowl of clear water, that of our mother having prayed for the blessings of families. Religious graffitis with the passage of time
However, the reflection of the mountain on the water in the bowl is quite interesting. The rocky mountain was projected onto typical Ilwolobongdo, which means Sun, Moon, and Five Peaks.
A folding screen painting that depicts the Sun, Moon, and five mountain peaks. A prominent example of court painting in the Joseon dynasty as well as a type of painting that symbolizes the King, ilwolobongdo were always placed behind the King’s seat, regardless of whether he was sitting inside or outside. The paintings were consistent in their composition. They were characterized by two-dimensional expression, brilliant colors, and symmetry. No records exist as to the origin of the icons, and no Chinese paintings have been discovered that would suggest Chinese influence either. Several scholars have suggested that the paintings were inspired by the Classic of Poetry, an ancient Chinese collection of poems. All surviving paintings date to the late Joseon dynasty and after. Ilwolobongdo
The perspective of a stranger tends to follow the spiritual prototype of the culture to which he belongs. It is a frame of cultural thinking engraved in the unconscious that he has followed and learned throughout his life. The image seems to be reflected by the vibration of Montserrat's bell is flickering.
A knight in search of the Holy Grail is also a practitioner who dreams of spiritual evolution(enlightenment). There is something in common even if the image of mind is different.
