What Are Chakras? A Brief Explanation (with Becca Tzigany) | Infinite Man - Spirituality
During last year's Infinite Man Summit, 30+ year tantric lifestyle educator Becca Tziganywas asked to explain what chakras are. Here is what she said...
As you know we're a physical body and as the ancients knew, and now mind-body medicine knows, we are an energetic body. And according to the ancient Hindu Tantra yogic tradition they identified the Chakras.
Chakras are different vortexes of energy where the energetic body attaches to the physical body and there's a Tibetan system that sees five of them. There's a Hindu system that sees seven of them. There's other systems that see all kinds of points but the the main importance is that I'm going to name seven because that's the most commonly held view.
1.) So the first one is the root chakra - it's our connection to the earth and it's where our perineum is. This is about survival. How do I feel about the earth? Am i making enough money? What am I afraid of? Things like that.
2.) Then the second chakra is the sexual center and it's about being able to flow and connect with other beings.
3.) The third chakra is in the solar plexus and it's the seat of power. Now in my breath workshops I talk a lot about the solar plexus because we're working with the diaphragm in breathing. And have you ever noticed that all the models, male and female, they have to suck their guts in, right? Because we don't want to be relaxed in the solar plexus.
4.) The 4th is the heart chakra. The first 3 chakras are considered the earth energy ascending into your body - like coming up from the earth. Chakras 5-7 are cosmos descending energy. The heart chakra is where the two meet, so it's said that the the sacred marriage of mother earth, father sky, the feminine, the masculine, expansive, and contractive meet in the heart and it is where union happens.
5.) The 5th is the throat chakra. It's the ability to express, to to sing, to talk, and to write creativity.
6.) Usually Hindus or Sikhs will put a dot in the center of their forehead - a bindi - to mark the sixth chakra. It's the seat of psychic site and our ability to connect with other realms. It's actually the pineal gland which is farther back in the brain. There are actually many substances in our food and drug supply that calcify the pineal gland so that we won't have that psychic ability to to feel inter-dimensionally.
7.) Finally we have the crown chakra. It's called the thousand petaled Lotus and it opens to the cosmos. It's our connection to our starry family, to the rest of the galaxies, and so forth.
