I am Hametaro, who runs the Splinterlands strategy site in Japanese. I translate the content on that site into English and deliver it to players around the world.
Characteristics of "Reach"
- Normally, melee attack monsters can only attack when they are in the 1st position. However, monsters with Reach can attack even when they are in the 2nd position.
- Even if the enemy has Taunt monsters in the second or later positions, Reach monster attack the 1st position of enemy monsters.
- When Super Sneak or Equal Opportunity rules, Sneak or Opportunity is given instead of Reach.
Usage of "Reach"
Sneak and Opportunity rather than Reach
- It can be used when you want to attack enemy monsters in the 1st position with melee attacks.
- However, since 1st position monster often uses Shield, it is more common to avoid attacking 1st position monster by using Sneak and Opportunity rather than Reach.
- Other abilities of monsters are often used in the deck because of their attractiveness, such as when you want to deal heavy damage with CARNAGE TITAN with Double Strike, or when you want to use CORSAIR BOSUN with Reflection Shield to take care of the Blast.
Counter to back position Taunt monster and Triage support formation
- Enemy do not like to be attacked by Sneak/Opportunity and monsters with Taunt are easily used. And if monsters with taunts are placed in the back row, their attacks will be dispersed, and if they are healed by triage, they will struggle to keep up with the amount of damage they do and recover.
- In such cases, it's easy to focus too much on the back position and not enough on the front. Therefore, if you take advantage of Reach's characteristics of attacking the front position monster, you may be able to break from the front and win the game!!
