This is my entry for the "Splinterlands Community Challenge: The Broken Combo!"
Akane (Dragon Splinter)
- preemptively strikes with 2 Units before battle even begins using Ambush
Key Units
Commander Slade (Water Splinter)
- Fast, evasive and hits like a truck
- Deals Backfire damage when successfully evading attacks
- Immune to Thorns
Zirin the Scorch (Dragon Splinter)
- Grants Phase to Commander Slade → enabling magic evasion
- Applies Slow to all enemies
- Deals Blast damage
- Provides Cleanse Rearguard — crucial synergy (explained below)
Runeseer Sevaya (Dragon Splinter)
- Applies Blind → massively boosts Slade’s evasion (core mechanic)
- Grants Protect (Armor) to all allies
- Can Repair armor
- Cleanses Slade of harmful effects
Zyrx the Emberglace (Dragon Splinter)
- if Slade is the Tank...Zyrx is the heavy Artillery
- Dual-Attack Bloodlust Unit
- Applies Incendiary debilitation
- This downside is fully countered by Zirin’s Cleanse Rearguard
Lineup
This is my standard lineup when running this strategy.
(Occasionally, the Soothsayer is swapped out for Yaba’s Pickle depending on the matchup.)
Strategy Explained
At the core of this composition is Commander Slade — the true carry of the lineup.
Positioned as the frontline tank, Slade becomes incredibly difficult to hit:
- Phase (from Zirin) allows him to evade magic attacks
- Blind (from Runeseer) further reduces enemy accuracy
- Combined with his natural speed, this turns him into an evasion monster
On top of that, every successful dodge triggers Backfire, punishing enemies for even attempting to hit him.
Meanwhile:
- Zirin slows the enemy team and pummels with Blast attacks
- Runeseer maintains armor and survivability across the team and ensures Slade remains clean of debuffs
And in the backline…
🔥 Zyrx the Emberglace takes over the battlefield
She delivers devastating dual attacks and:
- Executes enemies at 2 HP or below
- Snowballs rapidly with Bloodlust
If she secures early kills, the match quickly spirals out of control for the opponent.
😈 Why this combo is broken
You create a situation where:
- The frontline is almost untouchable
- The backline deals overwhelming damage
- And every mechanic feeds into the next
It’s synergy at its finest.
I run this strategy every time Water + Dragon are available and the mana cap allows it.
And honestly?
It rarely disappoints. 😏🔥
