Welcome back to our Weekly Battle Mage Secrets!
This week, we are featuring the Heavy Hitters ruleset.
Heavy Hitters:
- All units gain the Knock Out ability.
- Be sure to include a unit with Stun in your lineup to trigger the Knock Out ability.
Heavy Hitters is one of the rulesets where you need to have a supplemental ability paired with it. You'll need a stunner in your lineup which limits it's potential a lot but if you're able to get it, you'll be dishing out some serious damage.
| Synergies | |
|---|---|
| This is one of the best pairings for Heavy Hitters as there are a lot of monsters who have Stun but aren't magic so there is a tendency to miss. Being able to ensure that they never miss helps us deal consistent damage without the RNG of missing or dodges. | |
| The obvious synergy is definitely Stun. Being able to stun an enemy and then doing double strike would be ideal. This pairs well with Aim True as well so that you pretty much guarantee the hit so the Knock Out can take effect. | |
| The third one is Pierce. You'll want to try to include this in the lineup so that even with armor, you maximize damage. A lot of stunners are ranged so they'll need to burn through armor first. Having Pierce will help immensely. |
| Counters | |
|---|---|
| Headwinds is a good counter for this ruleset as it reduces ranged damage and like I mentioned, there are a lot of ranged stunners. Monsters like Ash Mirage and Scavo Chemist (both Fire Splinter) have these abilities so be on the lookout. Summoners like Quix the Devious also have -1 ranged damage. Remember, these stack so it'll be painful if you are nerfed to the ground in terms of damage. You'll also want to consider the other debuffs like Demoralize and Silence. | |
| Since we mentioned that a lot of stunners aren't magic, Blind can be a good debuff to bring on board to counter the enemy if they try to be stun heavy that aren't magic. | |
| Some people will try to want to outlast you in battles with their heals so even if you do double the damage with the Knock Out ruleset, they can still outlast you. Affliction can help offset these cases. |
This week's feature is from a regular match in Diamond League. Rulesets are as follows:
- Heavy Hitters
Very cut and dry in terms of rulesets this time but it is what it is. No other combo so we'll try to add in some Stuns and see how it goes.
Round 1
We both tried to use Kelya and while I opted for a double stun strategy, the enemy opted to use a low levelled Baakjira but with a healer at the back end. They also had some strong Sneak and Opportunity hitters while I didn't have any.
Round 2
The start wasn't too bad but the lack of Sneak on my end is hurting me a lot. The other problem is that the enemy Deeplurker is dishing out Poison like candy.
Round 3
Round 3 has me taking a ton of damage and my backline left decimated. I was able to get rid of the Baakjira but at the expense of my 3 backline hitters.
Round 4
Round 4 is the beginning of the end and I still even got more Poison stacked on me which hurt me even further.
Results
GG! I may have gotten too caught up in trying a Stun lineup and forgot to diversify a little bit with either a Sneak or Opportunity monster. If I were able to bring one, this could have turned out differently. Good for feedback and for improving further!
That's it for this one and see you next week!
