Introduction
When the Shade of Uul took shape within the Splinterlands, corrupting the six primary elements, it touched some of the chickens who are holding an uprising. Chickens who are amongst the most furious of them begins to transform into something vile... Something grotesque… Something fiendish and their previously colorless mana begins to change color from those of other elements. Now, there is not a single trace of the furious chicken on these fiends nor the who they were once. All that’s left is their unfathomable anger that will wreak chaos in Splinterlands.
Hi! This is the 2nd part of "Exploring the Chaos" where I take a look on Chaos Legion cards, theirs stats, their utility and their market price.
Last time, I talked about 1 Mana cards and their potential with Modern format. Now, I'm going to discuss about the Fiends or the 0 Mana cards that Chaos Legion has bring to us. As a bonus, I made some slight modification with their lore above to create a connection to the chicken as they both cards with 0 Mana.
Furious Chicken is a rare card which you can level up to level 8. On base level, it is a non- damage card but as it levels up, it gains melee damage and at level 5, it gains the Enrage ability which increases it's attack and speed when it recieves a damage that can be particularly effective when Equalizer rule set is at play but it also provides an amazing job of being a damage sponge when we ran out of mana and there were still an empty slot in our line up, playing under various rule sets.
While Furious Chicken is an amazing card, we can only play this on the Wild format and Fiends will provide a great alternative if we want to play at Modern League so let us take a look on this cards
Scorch Fiend is a Fire element 0 mana card. At max level, it gains the Demoralize ability which reduces the melee attack of all enemy monsters by 1.
Torrent Fiend is a 0 mana card from the Water element. At max level, it gains the Headwinds ability which reduces the range attack of all enemy monsters by 1.
Fungus Fiend is what 0 mana card we can find on the Earth element. It's Slow ability at level 4 reduces all the enemy speed by 1.
Soul Fiend is a Life element 0 mana card. Among all the fiends, it is the only one with an ally buff with it's Swiftness ability which increases all the ally cards speed by 1.
Corpse Fiend is the 0 mana card for the Death element. It's Silence will reduce all of the enemies' magic by 1 when it reached level 4.
So those were the Fiends. They are all legendary cards and maxing them out will be difficult due to their rarity so it's either you keep them at the base level or max them out so to unlock their abilities. I think anything in between would just be a waste of card which you can sold, rent or delegate if you have alternate accounts. Reading trough their lore, it's said that there are 6 elements that are corrupted, producing this Fiends but so far, we only have five. So I'm guessing that they might have the last one which is a Dragon Element, reserved for the Riftwatcher's pack.
Fiends in Action
This is a 22 mana cap battle where Equal Opportunity rule set is at play where all monsters can attack from any position and will attack the enemy with the lowest health and the Equalizer will make all their initial health the same to the monster with the highest HP.
For this battle, I used the summoner Tarsa which gives +1 melee damage and +1 HP to all the ally cards and cost 4 mana. Together with 1 mana Radiated Scorcher, 4 mana Xenith Monk, 4 mana Explosive Rats and 5 mana ** Radiated brute**, it cost 22 mana for a 5 card line- up but with the Scorch Fiend added, I gained another attacker with the same health as everyone else.
This is a 32 mana cap battle with Silenced Summoner rule set. This means that any abilities and stat boosts a summoner have will not be applied to the monsters for this battle.
I used the 4 mana Water summoner Kelya with + 1 speed and + 1 armor but due to the rule set, is additional stats will not be applied to my line- up. Together with 3 mana Cruel Sethropod, 6 mana Magi of Chaos, 9 mana Nerissa Tridawn, 6 mana Deeplurker an 4 mana ** Kulu Swimhunter**, I already used the 32 mana for a 5 line- up team. Adding the Torrent Fiend to fill the empty spot baits his Opportunity monster to attack it and allows the rest of the line up to last longer. At the end of the round, I was only left with 1 card with 3 HP which is the total damage that the Torrent Fiend has received and saved me from losing this battle.
This 17 mana cap battle has the Equal Opportunity and Close Range rule sets. Not only that everyone can attack from any position, range cards can also attack on the fist position.
This is a gold league battle where where I use the Dragon summoner, Daria Dragonscale. It has + 1 melee damage and cost 4 mana. This is followed with the 3 mana Hill Giant, 1 mana Mycelic Morphoid, 3 mana Vampire Bat,3 mana Screeching Vulture and 3 mana Venari Scout for a total of 17 mana. Adding Fungus Fiend not only served as a damage sponge for attacks but it was also able to land a hit before it was taken down. Another good thing with legendary cards is that when you have several cards with the same speed, the rarer ones gets the priority to attack by default.
For this 23 mana cap battle, we have the Spreading Fury where the attack and speed of a monster will increase by 1.5 times rounded up when it recieves damage and Evens Stevens where you can only choose monsters with even mana.
I use the summoner General Sloane for 4 mana which has the + 1 range. My tank is the 2 mana Pelacor Mercenary followed by 2 mana Dax Paragon, then 4 mana Time Mage, 6 mana Pelacor Arbalest and 4 mana Venari Crystalsmith for the last. I wasn't able to fully utilize all the mana for this battle since their overall total is just 22 mana but by adding Soul Fiend, I was able to fill all the empty slot and take some attack while my opponent only has 5 on his side.
For the last battle that I want to show you, it is another 17 mana cap battle with the Super Sneak rule set where melee monsters gained the Sneak ability to allow them to attack the last position monster then we have Taking Sides which banned the use of any neutral monster.
This time I use the 4 mana Dragon summoner Quix the Devious that reduces the speed and range attack of the enemy by 1. My line up consist of 6 mana ** Cursed Windeku**, 2 mana Wierding Warrior and 5 mana Silent Sha-vi for exactly 17 mana. Adding Corpse Fiend on the 4th position provides shield for potential sneak attackers while providing his own sneak.
And that's all the battle featuring the fiends. Although, they do not have much damage and health, given the right rulesets and the right positioning, this can be a very useful card all for the cost of 0 mana. In order to play a recap of the battles, just click on the battle that you want to watch.
Unplayable Rulesets

You might wonder why sometimes, there are situations that you cannot use a certain card. That is because for most of the times, rule sets dictate what cards you will use. So, here are the list of rule sets where you cannot use the Fiends in order to think of an alternative strategy as you encounter this rule sets.

Final Thoughts
As the Modern day Chicken, the Fiends provide proves to be as important as the Furious Chicken for the Wild league. At level 1, it provides good enough utility but I think that leveling it up anything between level 4 is a waste of resource because it doesn't gained much stats and doesn't gained any abilities so if you happen to have more of these cards, then better earn long term by renting out this cards, sell it for a one time profit or just keep it for additional power or delegate it if you have alternate accounts. Also, think of what league you are playing. Unless you are playing on Diamond league above, you cannot use the max level of this card. A regular foil fiend has 500 CP per BCX while the gold foil has 12, 500 CP. If you want utility alone, then you can buy all the Fiends for less than the price of a single gold foil of any kind but if you want both the utility and collection power, then it is up to you whether you buy the gold foil of this card or not.
And that’s it for my review on the Fiends. Hope that you learned something from it. If you want to follow my previous reviews, the link/s are provided below. Thanks!
