This light and agile creatures are one of the best monsters in a mana limited battle fields. Their stats and abilities makes them perfect as tank (soft but agile) or a diversion in most cases.
Two Main Reasons why I use Riftwings in Low to Mid Mana Battles.
1. Zero Attack and Flying
Yes, you read it right. When faced with thorned monsters, dodging is a better option than attacking head on (melee). Unless, of course, if you have high attack and high defense. The zero attack of the Riftwings makes them immune to thorns. Their flying ability makes them a soft but evasive tanks.
Flying - Has an increased chance of evading (+25%) Melee or Ranged attacks from Monsters who do not have the Flying ability.
2. Snipe and Sneak Diversions
Riftwings can also act as a perfect shield for your backline attackers. Placing it in front of your ranged and magic attackers prevents them from being sniped early on. Placing them at the very back is also a good measure against sneak attacks. Again, its flying ability makes it evasive from physical attacks.
Note: Sneak and opportunity are mostly melee while snipe are mostly ranged.
The 3 RULESETS where I find the Riftwings very useful.
1. Noxious Fumes
Expect a lot of death in a poisoned battle field. The riftwings’ scavenger ability takes advantage from this. When strategically positioned, your riftwing can outlive your opponents. Under this ruleset, I usually place mine in the middle or at the back. Just be wary of snipe and sneak attacks.
Noxious Fumes - All Monsters starts the battle poisoned.
Scavenger - Gains 1 max health each time any monster dies.
2. Earthquake
Similar to the Noxious Fumes ruleset. Riftwings' flying and scavenger abilities are advantageous in this case. They are don't take damage at the end of each round. At the same time, others deaths increases their max health.
Earthquake – Non-flying monsters takes 2 melee damage at the end of each round.
3. Spreading Fury
Whenever I’m using the death splinter, I generally use my Riftwing as a tank. When enraged, its increased speed combined with its flying ability makes it highly evasive. Physical attacks will most likely to miss. This gives my backline attackers enough time to take down the opponents team.
Spreading Fury – All monsters have enrage ability
Enrage - Has increased (multiplied by 1.5 rounded up) Melee attack and Speed when damaged.
Conclusion:
The riftwings have average base stats with no attack nor armor. But if you integrate their abilities, they can be useful in many ways. With a good strategy, they can be formidable supports.
Happy Gaming!!!
