I must mention in advance that I usually draw very rarely. I find my hand drawings quite acceptable, but I have never dealt with drawings on the computer before. I would love to have a drawing pad, but it hasn't been worth it for me to spend the money yet, since I don't get to draw that often. However, I am surprised myself and proud of the result. I think that the final image is really worth seeing and I have learned a lot about Photoshop and rediscovered a little more my passion for drawing.
Basically, I designed a demonized Flesh Golem in my picture.
The idea came to me quite spontaneously. I thought all along that the Flesh Golem would have a bit of a Frankenstein-like quality to it. And because Frankenstein is made of green skin, I made the connection in my head to demons relatively quickly. While demons in mythology are usually drawn more devil-like and thus the color red or black often plays a role, my image of demons is strongly influenced by World of Warcraft. The green color, especially green skin, I associate directly with the Orcs and the Legion in my mind.
But this idea came to me only during the drawing. So I first started classically with the sketch and the outlines, where it was not yet obvious that it could be a demon flesh golem.
In the next picture you can see how the idea with the green skin solidified at the beginning of coloring. Only after coloring the greens, did I get the idea to go in the demon direction.
Because I didn't like the sketch and especially the feet of the Flesh Golem at all anymore, I first had to test out later planned "special effects". After that I agreed with myself, it has to become a demon and I have to use these special effects.
So I deleted the quickly created effects again and went to the final basic coloring.
Now comes a bigger jump, because I more or less doodled around for one night. I focused a lot on the demon-like atmosphere to develop the special effects, horns, and background. I shot the picture in the middle of the process, though. You can still see the multiplied bubbles in the middle of the picture.
In the next image we are in the middle of the shadow and light colorization. I edited the bubbles a bit further and also edited the green fire/magic further and added light effects.
This was followed by many more small-step edits, but they are not really worth presenting here anymore. Basically, I played around with the light and shadow coloring, improved the fog on the feet, worked on the proportions of the mouth and face as well as the scars, and so on. This then leads us to the final result, which you can see above as the first picture of my post :)
In between, i tried to add a nice animation. But somehow After Effects didn't manage to save the GIF in the correct resolution. That's why I left it as it was. Unfortunately, I lacked the idea for it.
I also wrote a short story that spontaneously came to mind about the image. Basically a little prologue to the picture.
For the sake of clarity, I put the story in another post. So whoever is interested can click the following link or look into my profile :)
