Plots of Land, at which price point would you be willing to get one?
For players on a budget, owning a few pixels of the promised land seems sometimes a far mirage, something that is almost out of reach. In my situation though, it is probably fair to say that I could purchase a plot of land at the current price if I wanted to, but that would be pretty much it, which seems like a costly gamble if this turns out to be comparable to packs openings.
To begin with, I don’t have many cards to work on my hypothetical land. Second, there are still a lot of unknowns surrounding lands overall, even though it certainly sounds like a game-changer type of feature that might expand the game beyond what we can imagine. The thing is: what will happen to my plot of land if I end up with the most undesirable type of all?
Lands have been introduced as the future of this game but I can’t help myself wondering in the back of my mind if lands wouldn’t widen the disparity between the “Have” and the “Have not” in Splinterlands. We don’t know yet the details about how all this will influence the ecosystem, but it seems that lands will be fairly profitable to large landlords who managed to secure tracts, regions, castles, and keeps.
They made a wonderful decision by purchasing those plots of land at $20 a piece. They were willing to take the risks early on and therefore, should be naturally rewarded for it. Nevertheless, what will happen to all the other players without lands? Will they be stuck in a never-ending rat race, like many in the Real World, where people grind to pay the bills and break even at the end of each month?
I was trying to assess how much money I would be willing to allocate to a plot of land, which led me to have a look at the number of SPS airdrop points that were attributed to one plot of land. I know that this assumption is clearly flawed as we saw that there were some misjudgments regarding the weight of each asset (cf. DEC) for the SPS airdrop. But well, I had to start somewhere.
As a point of reference, I’ve spent $400 on 100 Chaos Legion packs, which gives me 30,000 points daily. Now, when we look at how many points a plot of land gets us (10,000 points per plot), we can roughly guess the cost of a single plot that the developers originally had in mind. A plot would give me 3 times fewer points than my 100 packs, so by dividing $400 by 3, we would get a price of $133.33/plot.
I bet that this amount might sound ridiculous for some, but this is simply the price I would feel comfortable paying to get my first plot. It is also interesting to note that this would still be 6.66 times their original price of $20. In the end, I might never get a plot, but hopefully, every player will be able to profit from lands in one way or another.
And you, how much would you be willing to pay to get your plot of land?

Interesting thoughts about the potential of the DEFI element coming with lands by :
I was mostly thinking out loud in this post and I would love to get more experienced players to share their points of view on the subject.
