Mabuhay!
It has been 3 weeks since I started and my, oh my... Splinterlands definitely got me into the game so much that I relatively forgot my desire of looking for other possible NFT games in the market.
This blog is a, perhaps, a 'not-so-much in-depth' look on how I causally got into the game, how it has been for me, and how it may affect my life, moving forward.
For those who are curious: yes, I am a Senior High School teacher in the Philippines. The usual checkboxes: salary is average, stress in dealing with students is quite high, and personal/family life sometimes gets overrun by commitments in the profession. Perhaps, some fellow Filipinos would also have the same reasons why I actually got into the game in the first place:
- Extra Income - Yes, we have to admit, life has been had during the pandemic. Working during the pandemic even magnified the stress associated with work 2 to 3 times worse. This equates to more living/daily expenses, which is in any case, not good. Getting myself into Splinterlands, I somehow got to learn more about cryptocurrencies: watched videos, read legit online guides, asked a few questions here and there... and here I am, barely a month into the game, and finally can safely say that I see some growth (although not that big to make me financially stable) in my progress. Getting my first 1 SPS/day was indeed a milestone for me. Now, I am definitely aiming for a better SPS rate!
Experience from Hobbies,TCG/CCG - I used to play... A LOT! It is my way of being able to get out of my real-world concerns and sink myself into another world. It was, back in my younger years, an outlet of stress and frustration. This time, you can't get yourself into the game without thinking of the real-world scenario (e.g. spend your money on a standard M:tG deck or buy supplies/food for your family) sort of thing. The elements in this game reminded me of my love for the Card Battle genre. Not only I get to play online, but also I get to earn both in value and through passive income!
Motivation - Watching my DEC grow from earning 0.009 in one battle to an average of 19-60 DEC (depending on the bonuses) got me really excited.
To learn a lot from Youtubers like Bulldog1205, Dwyane Cunningham, and Crypto Simplified, got me more enticed to continue with the game. Having a very supportive guild (yes, I was lucky to be able to join one early - will have a special blog about this!) with active members and a friendly guild boss made the experience a complete package! It gave me that urge to learn more, seek more and find more information about it, which led me to creating this blog for all of you to read and share!
Well, that's it for this semi-short blog. It's my first entry (and hopefully not my last), so if you are interested, I do have a Youtube channel "Ask Teacher Jhei" and if you want me to create Splinterlands content on my channel, I'd be glad to put up some videos. Thank you for reading and until my next blog! Cheers!
