Sup SteemSquad
So the world cup has kicked off and many steemians are getting in on the action with prediction score games, reviews of the games, opinions of who they think will win it and who they are supporting for the tournament and it's really livened up my feed which has been pretty slow as of late.
I've been going through tons of World cup content on the site and I didn't see much love for stand out players for each game and I thought it would be a cool series of posts to run with for the next month.
This is my second post in the series. If you'd like to check out the previous ones I'll keep listing them here:
- 2 World Cup Players of the round: Group C & D - Match Day 1

Nigeria vs Iceland
Ahmed Musa has to be the stand out candidate, he scored both goals as Nigeria swept aside World Cup debutants Iceland to leave Group D intriguingly poised with one round of games to go.
Ahmed Musa's first goal was exceptional with a half-volley while the Leicester forward's second was not bad either as he rounded the keeper to seal the victory for the super eagles. He has now scored Nigeria's last four World Cup goals.
Brazil vs Costa Rica
One of the cagiest games in the world cup and 2-0 really does flatter Brazil and doesn't tell the full story of the game. Costa Rica were 5 minutes away from killing Brazillian world cup hopes and walking away with a famous draw with the help of Keylor Navas. Brazil had 22 shots with 10 on target and kept the Real Madrid keeper busy with him standing up to the test until the final moments. It was an heroic display and has to be applauded.
Serbia vs Switzerland
Switzerland took a huge step towards the last 16 of the World Cup as Xherdan Shaqiri scored a brilliant solo 90th-minute winner against Serbia and helping his country become the first at this World Cup finals to come from behind and win.
Shaqiri was lively throughout the game and produced a moment of magic with a shot that hit the post after curling the effort from the edge of the box. He then began to pick up his game after that and was far more influential in the second half - eventually capitalising on poor defending for the winning goal when Serbia left themselves exposed at the back as they pushed for a winner of their own.

Have your say
So there you have it, the stand out players from the last 3 games. I've been complaining at what a scrappy World Cup this has been and apart but the Nigeria and Switzerland wins were far from scrappy as the tournament looks to heat up. Musa and Shaqiri are both players with bags of potential but often blow hot and cold, lets hope for their nations sake they can consistantly produce on this level going forward.
Who do you think was your stand out player in matchday 1 so far? Would love to hear your feedback as matches start coming thick and fast. So drop me a comment or a link to your review of world cup stand out players
