World Cup Players of the round: Group C & D - Match Day 2

So the world cup has kicked off and many steemians are getting in on the action with prediction score games, reviews of the games, opinions of who they think will win it and who they are supporting for the tournament and it's really livened up my feed which has been pretty slow as of late.

I've been going through tons of World cup content on the site and I didn't see much love for stand out players for each game and I thought it would be a cool series of posts to run with for the next month.

Denmark vs Australia

As a Gooner it pains me to say this but Christian Eriksen would have to be the man of the match. He scored a fine goal and was involved in many of Denmark's best moves during an eye-catching display. Denmark had a 4 real chances on goal with Eriksen being at the heart of most of them.

The Danish looked a little worse for wear and you could see the Peruvians really took a toll on them in the previous game with some of the play being rather tiresome. While the same could be said for the Aussies who did not look as defensively solid as they did against France. Tiring squads and chopping and changing could definitely see this world cup start opening up in terms of goals in the final set of games.

France vs Peru

Always rated him and glad he's getting the praise he deserves. Man of the match goes to Oliver Giroud who had two shots and made three key passes in the match and really gave France the focal point up front they've been lacking. While Coach Didier Deschamps had reservations about him but surely he is indispensable to France after the display against Peru. France still looks like they need to kick up a few gears and their scrappy performances remind me of what Portugal did at the previous Euros.

Argentina vs Croatia

WOW WOW WOW! I banked on a Croatia win but not for them to absolutely blow Argentina out of the water. At this point, there are really only two midfielders standing out for me at the World cup and they're both play for Croatia. Modric and Raktic are completely dominating teams in the middle of the park and its hard to pick between the two so this time im going for the Real Madrid midfielder scored a superb goal and had 62 touches, making 29 passes in the opposition half - the most by a Croatia player - with an accuracy of 82.8%

Could this bet the first world cup upset or Is there still time for Messi to save his countries world cup hopes?

So there you have it, the stand out players from the last 3 games. Apart from Giroud I think these are expected to be top performers while I have to say Modric is really playing his socks off. He looks fired up and ready to take Croatia to the finals.
