Hey dear Steemians, what's up?😊
My mom bought a very, very cool mountainbike many years ago. She used to ride it a lot and loved it! One day, however, she decided to give it to my husband Ronny as she didn't use it very often anymore and he didn't have a bike but wanted one so bad. That's how this amazing bike, which has seen a lot of Southern German forests, ended up in my husbands care in 2012.
Ronny immediately fell in love with that amazing full suspension bike and we made a lot, yes a LOT, of awesome and sometimes even pretty long tours with it. I had my trekking bike and he rode, drifted and jumped with his new best friend. My mom once named the bike "Black Pearl" just like the pirate ship of captain Jack Sparrow from the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean".
She also was a pretty wild rider but I guess my husband really tested the bike to its limits. Especially since we moved to Northern Germany in July 2015. Since then we live in Rostock, at the coast of the Bealtic Sea. When we arrived our new home we discovered the whole area and the coast by our bikes and drove like several thousand kilometers within a few months.
No surprise "Black Pearl" looked pretty worn out after all the amazing adventures, spectacular drifts and breathtaking jumps my husband Ronny had done and experienced with it. As it slowly started to become decrepit, one thing became more and more sure: That bike needs to be pimped!
So when the gear shift, the brakes and other important parts stopped working properly, Ronny ordered some new parts for loved "Black Pearl" on amazon.de. Even if it would be expensive, he would never ever say goodbye to this loyal and extremely sturdy bike. Yeah, I guess it really became kind of a friend in some way. It has accompannied us on so many adventures, it has a story to tell.
For this reason we started project "Pimp that bike!" and I assisted Ronny a bit in making "Black Pearl" worth its name again! 😊
Before and after pimping
Ronny asked me to stay at home the next days until the postman had delivered all the parcels containing the new parts and tools for his bike, as he had to work and I am self-employed and work from home. He was very excited to start the project so I sended him ugly selfies everytime a parcel arrived (we have the strange habit to send us ugly selfies for almost every reason and also take some together when we are out or traveling, so I even didn't break that funny habit this time 😃).
Here's an example - you're welcome 😄
And when the last one was delivered to us it was finally the time to....
Pimp that bike!
Before pimping
Aaaaw, poor "Black Pearl"...Looks so worn out and dirty
Even the paint was scratched...more a "Not So Black Pearl"
I don't even know if you can call that a bicycle seat anymore...
I mean...WTF?!
Didn't that hurt on... well, ok nevermind!
This dude isn't supposed to be a lowrider, I gues...
And the bicycle tires also have seen some better times
Much better ones...
The gear shift, bottom bracket and bicycle pedals were in a lousy condition
And the brakes were not only covered in dirt but also pretty worn out by the extreme driving style of my husband. I wondered all the time why they didn't quit their job much earlier...
The grips weren't even really recongnizable anymore
Uhm....what the heck?
Screw that bike... I mean... well, you know what I mean, right?
After pimping
Drum roll...ta-daaa
Didn't Ronny make old granny "Black Pearl" look young and healthy again? (Which kind of sorcery is that?)
This time "Black Pearl" became a "Matt Black Pearl"
With a viking compass, called "vegvisir", on it
I think this is such a cool idea as it suits perfectly to the ship name of the bike and the area we live. The Baltic Sea was full of vikings once and the Scandinavian countries are only a short hop away from us
Looks much more comfortable captain, eh?
And less dangerous to your...treasure...
I am sure it will drive way better with some air. Pirates don't like lowriders...
Modern land-pirates like to have grip!
And good equipment for many exciting adventures
Some very good pedals to row...uhm...drive "Black Pearl" properly
And also some very good new brakes to stop the driving madness
Amazing new grips so driving the bike won't feel like bull riding
Some last checks if everything works as it should
Aaand here we go! Project "Pimp that bike!" successfully completed!
Here you can see the magical result even better by some "before and after" pictures
Isn't the bike so much cooler now? 😊
This project was so much fun, even if I only assisted Ronny. He is such a talented craftsman, I really admire that!
Watching him turning granny "Black Pearl" into a beauty again was really satisfying in an oddly way 😃
I hope Ronny will make many other projects with me, as this was such a cool one and I really enjoy doing crazy stuff with him!
All the money I earn with this post goes directly to my loved husband. He just put so much money, effort and love in pimping his bike, I really want to reward him! 🚴 😊
Thank you so much mom, for giving your amazing bike to Ronny! As you can see, there are a lot more adventures waiting for us and way more places to discover with the new old bike! And he really loves "Black Pearl"! You did make him very happy by giving your amazing mountainbike to him! 😊
