JR Smith is the name on everyone's lips after Game 1 of the finals and that simply is not right! Lebron James became just the 5th player in NBA history to score 50 points in the NBA Finals when dropped 51 points to go with 8 rebounds and 8 assists yet it was a crucial and ludicrous piece of basketball from JR that has the whole league talking. With scores tied with only a few seconds to go and George Hill at the line looking to put the Cavs up by a point he missed the 2nd free throw and Smith managed to come away with the rebound right under the basket. Instead of just going straight back for an easy bucket or get fouled, JR thought the Cavs were up and dribbled outside of the key and towards half court before realizing what was happening and by then it was all too late and the rest is history with the Warriors pulling away in Overtime to win by 10.
Lebron deserved better in Game 1 in one of the most epic performance in the finals in a long time, this could be the closest the Warriors get to a win in Oakland and they had the game in there grasp after he had carried them all game. He dissected the Warriors D all game, in the 2nd half he was double teamed and pressured heavily but was still making the right plays even down to the last one in regulation where only a foul on George Hill saved a certain dunk. I am an unashamed Cavs fan and really dont give the Warriors big 4 credit in this one, they were all ok but hey when its 4 on 1 its not bad, Curry will be lauded for his game but his success is built on the others around him.
Where to for the Cavs in Game 2 and for the rest of this series i am not sure, Game 1 is the one that got away and that will sting now for a few days, whether Lebron can play at that level again is again and whether or not the way they lost that game is the big question. Id love to see a series and Cleveland square things up at 1 all but it might be there best chance squandered.
