Manchester City and Ivory Coast midfielder, Yaya Toure has previously stated he does drink alcohol as a result of his religion. Yet, today he has accepted a drink driving charge and ban but claims to have not drank alcohol intentionally.
Toure was driving in Dagenham in east London at the time of the offence last month.
Toure claims the judge has accepted his claim that he was not intentionally drinking but has not provided any more information as to how that came to be. The premier league used to hand out bottles of champagne to man of the match winners but as a result of differing religious beliefs such as Toure's, they have changed the match award to a trophy instead.
He was fined £54,000 - a means-tested fine - and banned from driving for 18 months by Barkingside magistrates.
