This is the third instalment of the life of Chess World Champions. I have written about Mikhail Tal and Bobby Fischer, its Capablanca's turn tonight.
Jose Raul Capablanca is the third World Chess Champion, his reign lasted approximately six years(1921-1927). At his peak power Capablanca was simply unbeatable, his quick wit and knowledge of the end game is legendary.
Capablanca was born in Havana, Cuba on the 19th of November, 1888 to a spanish army officer, he learnt the game of chess at a very tender age of four.
He wrote the book Chess Fundamentals which has remained a source of reference to future World Champions.
Jose Raul Capablanca died on the 8th of March, 1942 at Mount Sinai hospital of Cerebral haemorrhage.
His great rival Emmanuel Lasker said "I have met many chess players but only one chess genius: Capablanca"
